As a career educator, a mother and step-mother to six wonderful children, three amazing grandchildren, and an active supporter of our community's vibrant arts scene and a passionate soccer fan, my commitment to education is both deeply personal and professionally driven. I'm Dr. Malia Hite, and I'm running for Timpanogos School Board Seat 4 because I believe my extensive experience and innovative approach are exactly what we need to build a thriving new school district – one that ensures every child has the opportunity to soar.

Proven Leadership at the State Level

For the past five years, I have had the privilege of serving as the Executive Coordinator of Educator Licensing for the Utah State Board of Education. In this role, I've been at the forefront of significant advancements in how we prepare and license our educators. I successfully led Utah’s transformative shift to a competency-based educator preparation and licensing system, simplified teacher license renewals, implemented crucial improvements in science of reading teacher preparation, and developed an innovative teacher apprenticeship pipeline program.

Throughout my tenure, my focus has been on thinking innovatively to reduce barriers to the teaching profession and provide flexibility in meeting requirements. This approach has been the hallmark of my work, always striving to ensure we have the best possible educators in our classrooms.

Nearly Three Decades of Diverse Educational Experience

My journey in public education spans nearly 30 years starting as a high school math, music, and English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher. I've had the opportunity to contribute in a variety of roles within schools, districts, universities, and state educational organizations. My passion is in supporting all students to achieve at high levels. I've worked as an instructional coach and administrator to improve mathematics instruction for students with disabilities and students learning English at all levels of education: school, district, state, and even national.  Following a short tenure as a college professor in the School of Education at a small liberal arts college, I moved into educational policy to implement systemic improvements for all of Utah's students.  My work has consistently focused on the critical areas of high-quality instruction, educator quality, and public school policy. This diverse experience has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the educational landscape from multiple vantage points.

Educational Background

My academic foundation includes:

  • A Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Mathematics from the University of California-Santa Barbara with a minor in Music

  • A Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Educational Technology from National University

  • A Doctorate in Educational Leadership (Ed.D. or Ph.D. - you can specify) from George Fox University

My Commitment to Timpanogos

My career has been dedicated to improving education systems and supporting educators. Now, I want to bring that experience, passion, and innovative spirit directly to our community in Orem. Establishing the Timpanogos School District is a monumental task, and I am ready to roll up my sleeves and work collaboratively to create a district where students achieve new heights, teachers are supported, and our community thrives.

Let's "Choose the Hite" for a brighter future for our schools!
